Last updated 11 May 2020

College Information & Policies

The St Cross College site, including libraries and common rooms, remain closed, with the Porter on duty usually the only staff member present. Only those students resident on the main site are able to access the College site. If, for whatever reason, you need to access the College, please contact the Lodge at +44 (0)1865 278 490 to discuss how this may be accommodated.

Most staff members are now working from home, but all staff are contactable by email; full contact details are available here. As a quick guide, the following staff members can be contacted to help current students with specific enquiries. If you are a prospective student, please see the University Guidance for applicants. St Cross Offer Holders will receive regular information from our Academic Office.

Accommodation Update

Students who have vacated the College and who are not planning on returning will NOT be held to their tenancy agreements during Trinity Term, subject to the conditions below. It may take time to process refunds, but you will not need to apply separately to be reimbursed.

If any belongings were left in College accommodation and students vacated their rooms before 7 April 2020, these belongings will be left in rooms for the time being. We will arrange how to reunite you with them at a later date. If you have left and cleared your room, and are sure that you are not returning, please contact the accommodation office. If you have now moved out of Oxford, please update your student record with your current address.

Students who left after 7 April 2020 and are not planning on returning should have removed all their belongings. Failure to do so will be treated as a continuation of tenancy, and students in such circumstances will be liable for the payment of rental charges.

Hardship Funding

The University has launched an Emergency Assistance Fund for current students who have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Please see the St Cross Hardship Funding page for further information.

Stay in Touch

The Master and other members of staff will send out regular updates regarding the COVID-19 situation to all College members.  We also invite you to follow the College on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for additional updates.

The College has set up nine geographically based WhatsApp groups to help College members stay connected, and more may be developed soon. We currently have groups for London, the UK (excluding London), USA West Coast, USA Midwest, USA South, USA North East, Singapore, and Hong Kong, and an additional group for current students living in Oxford. If you’d like to join one of these groups, send a WhatsApp message to +44 7964 920916 with your name and the group you’d like to join.

College Opportunities and Resources

Expand All

To relieve some of the difficulty of social distancing requirements, we would like to reach out to other members of the College community. We hope to enable current students to phone individual College Fellows and Members of Common Room at a scheduled and convenient time for a general chat and conversation. This might involve discussion of current work, research, work experience, or other mutual areas of interest. If you are interested in participating, please express your interest to Annabelle Saunders, Alumni Engagement Manager, by emailing

We hope to host an online seminar and discussion group and are looking for volunteer speakers. If you’d be happy to give a short talk/presentation to our College community online using Zoom, please get in touch with Victoria Cox at

Laura Evers is the dedicated College Counsellor. Laura is a member of the University Counselling Service team and can offer dedicated appointments for St Cross students from 14:00-17:00 (BST) on Mondays during term time. Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, these appointments will be offered through Microsoft Teams/Skype during Trinity Term 2020. To make an appointment, please contact Laura at More information about the University Counselling Service is available at Students can also access global support through Big White Wall.

Several eResources to help you access online collections across the University can be downloaded here.

The St Cross College Library is able to purchase eBooks that are otherwise unavailable (budget permitting). Please send any requests, as well as any other library queries, to the College Librarian at

Staff members have collected a number of free resources to improve research, work and study from home.

St Cross Members responding to COVID-19

We know that many College members are involved with many different research projects relating to COVID-19 whilst others are volunteering and supporting in many practical ways. We would like to share your stories here. If you or another St Cross member has a story to share, please contact Riley Lewis at
