Why Choose St Cross?

The College has many special features that combine to give it a distinct character:

With about 590 students, 172 Members of Common Room and approximately 160 Fellows, the College is smaller than the Oxford average, ensuring that its members can share in an intimate and friendly community atmosphere.

Amongst all the Graduate Colleges in Oxford, St Cross has the highest proportion of Professors for the size of its Fellowship.
People come to St Cross from all over the world and from a wide variety of backgrounds, and there is a good mix of students on one- or two-year taught courses and those pursuing research degrees.
Students share facilities with the Fellows on equal terms. Most Colleges have distinct senior, middle and junior common rooms and a separate high table, but at St Cross the common rooms are for all members of the College to use and there is open seating in Hall. As few distinctions as possible are made between students and Fellows in the day-to-day life of the College, this enables the free flow of knowledge and experience which any graduate should rightly expect from an academic community at Oxford.
