Immersive Storytelling with Anthony Geffen

The College was delighted to welcome BAFTA and EMMY award-winning director and St Cross Fellow by Special Election Anthony Geffen on 20 October for an ‘Immersive Storytelling’ workshop day as part of the St Cross College Professionals in Residence programme. The programme facilitates engagement between students, alumni, and current members of the College community with outstanding professionals from a range of backgrounds and disciplines.

This year, St Cross students were given unparallel access to one of the world’s leading documentary filmmakers and a pioneer in multiplatform storytelling, Anthony Geffen.

Anthony gave an insightful talk on the future of immersive storytelling, including how the use of AR, VR, MR and AI will affect storytelling in the future, followed by a Q&A session and a working lunch with him and his team.

St Cross students were able to explore some of the world’s most cutting-edge immersive experiences that have been produced by Atlantic Productions. What is more, students were given a chance to explore AR and MR pre-historic animals and the world of insects in 8K VR, and to discuss what they had seen with the people that created it.
