Dr Sayantan Banerjee

Dr.Sayantan Banerjee is a physician-scientist and Associate Professor at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Kalyani, where he leads Infectious Diseases services and previously headed the Department of Microbiology. He has combined academic excellence with field leadership in infectious disease outbreaks, health systems reform, and biomedical innovation. He holds an MBBS (Medical College Kolkata), MD (MAMC Delhi), DNB, DipRCPath (UK), and DM (Infectious Diseases, AIIMS Delhi). Dr. Banerjee served as Consultant and Technical Officer on Antimicrobial Resistance and COVID-19 innovations at WHO-SEARO and as Director of Clinical Research at 1Day Sooner. He has taken on leadership roles in India’s national efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic, including frontline management of ICU patients, clinical research, community interventions in slums, and vaccine trials. His research and professional interests span antimicrobial resistance, snakebite envenomation, affordable biotech innovations for the Global South, emerging infections, and neglected tropical diseases. He has authored over 40 peer reviewed publications and secured more than ₹10 crore in competitive R&D grants. Besides clinical, teaching and administrative duties, he is currently developing frugal, scalable diagnostics, antivenoms, and therapeutic biologics. He envisions transforming public health delivery in the Global South through equitable innovation and deeper UK–India collaboration.
