Talk to me about: academic research and careers, climate change politics and communication, international careers
Mary is an academic researcher currently based at the University of Bath and supported by a Leverhulme Eary Career Fellowship. Her work focuses on the politics of climate change, with a focus on public opinion, political discourse, and the impact of social media. With training across data science, psychology, and political science, she brings a well-rounded perspective to her research. Before Bath, she was a researcher on the EU Horizon project CAPABLE with the European Institute on Economics and the Environment in Milan. During her DPhil, she interned and later consulted for the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Originally from the US, she has changed countries five times in the last ten years so she can also relate to the struggles (and opportunities) of forging an international career path in academia.
Advice to St Cross students: Always be open to learning from others. Become comfortable knowing that you don't know everything. Be patient and trust yourself to learn and grow with time.
