As part of the College's World Music Series this year, renowned musicians Cheng Yu and Zongpu Lu will perform as the Silk & Bamboo Duo a one-hour concert with a programme that celebrates traditional Chinese folk music. 

The Silk & Bamboo Duo comprises: 

Cheng Yu who plays the pipa (four-stringed lute) and guqin (seven-stringed zither). 

Cheng Yu was born in Beijing and was formerly a soloist with China’s National Orchestra. Cheng Yu has performed at the Royal Albert Hall, the Southbank Centre, the Barbican, and at the WOMEX and WOMAD festivals as well as with the BBC and London Symphony Orchestras. Her published CDs include four solo albums and much cross-cultural music. 

and Zongpu Lu who plays the dizi (transverse) and xiao (vertical) flutes. 

Zongpu Lu is a distinguished Chinese bamboo flute artist and a graduate of the China Conservatory of Music. Zongpu has performed at major international venues such as the Berlin Philharmonie and the Queen Elizabeth Hall, and has represented China in more than twenty countries through China’s Ministry of Culture, including performing as the principal bamboo flautist at the 2025 London International Chinese Music Festival.
