DPhil Population Health (2021)

My name is Paige Fitzsimmons, and I am a Canadian DPhil candidate at the Ethox Centre within the Nuffield Department of Population Health. My research focuses on institutional trustworthiness in health data access and sharing in the UK, more specifically how trustworthiness is understood in this context and how that translates into practice. With my project I’m looking to understand how the conceptual elements of trust align with the practical challenges of health data sharing, and I am working towards a set of conceptually justifiable standards that institutions can hold themselves to.

This is especially pertinent at a time when health data is becoming increasingly valuable, both in terms of its practical utility and its economic worth, and when public trust in institutions is being increasingly scrutinized.

Outside of my academic work, I am a passionate road cyclist and have represented both St Cross College and the University of Oxford in races.

I am deeply grateful to the Uehiro Foundation for their generous support, which has allowed me to continue my research into the fourth year of my DPhil. I would also like to thank St Cross College for providing a supportive and welcoming academic community. Being part of St Cross has offered me countless opportunities to engage with peers and academic mentors alike.
