‘A bottle of wine is an investment in sociability’ – or so it’s said – and I feel it’s my privilege as Wine Steward to test that proposition with others in the St Cross community. Graham Harding, St Cross Wine Steward.

Talking recently to St Crossers has brought up the idea of small ‘wine circle’, meeting twice a term, and with wine serving as a stimulant to conversation rather than as something to be tasted and evaluated.

So … meet people you may not yet know, learn about what they do, hear what interests them – and what wines they (and you) like.

The meetings are open to all members of the St Cross community fellows, students, MCR members and staff – but restricted to 12 people, that being the number of tasting samples from a standard bottle. Four places are reserved for student members of the community.

The 4-6 bottles of wine we will try would (generally) come from the cellars – perhaps tasters of newly bought stock, perhaps making inroads into the bin-ends that necessarily accumulate.

If you are interested, the first meeting will be on Wednesday 21st May in the Van Hey Room, starting at 8.00pm. The cost will be £7.50 each, with payment requested once tickets confirmed.

If you’d like to come to this first meeting, please let me know by email at grahamharding169@gmail.com. It will be first come, first served. If you’re a student member please alert me so I can get the numbers right.

And if you’re interested but can’t make the 21st, then I’d be glad to hear from you and build up a list for the future.
