On Friday 18 June, Fellows and students faced each other on Zoom for a final tie-breaker match in the third instalment of the College's General Knowledge Quiz series this academic year, with each team having won one match apiece over the past two terms.
Across several different subject rounds, the two teams of five members answered some challenging questions, once again ably researched and cleverly formulated by Lesley Sanderson, the Master's PA. The tie-breaker match followed the now-familiar format in which the posing of questions by the Quiz Master was followed by each side conferring in separate breakout rooms to agree on their final answers.
Leaping to a strong start, the students took the lead after the initial round with the Fellows narrowly trailing yet keeping up the competition in the next few rounds that followed. The final round on St Cross & Oxford saw the Fellows make a final push, scoring bumper points and pulling alongside the students. The end result was a draw of 50 points for each team in a thrilling finale. A brand new silver trophy obtained by the SRC for the contest will be engraved to record each term's winning team.
Father Mark Stafford, President of Common Room, once again acted as the Quiz Master with wit and panache. The teams were led by Gulnar Abdullayeva (Students) and Dr Jo Ashbourn (Fellows) in an evening full of collegiality, culminating in a very exciting final round - the next match is on for Michaelmas Term!
Our catering manager Paul White made a special treat for the winners, which on this occasion was both our Fellows and our students!
