St Cross alumnus named in Forbes 30 Under 30

St Cross is delighted to congratulate alumnus José Monge (2021, MSc Water Science, Policy and Management), who has been named in the Forbes Centroamérica 30 Under 30 2026 list. José was recognised for his work as founder and CEO of Segura, a company developing portable technology for testing water for contaminants. Forbes profiled his work under the title Agua limpia para todos — “Clean water for all”.

José came to St Cross in 2021 for an interdisciplinary course in water science and management that brings together teaching across the social and natural sciences, covering subjects including water science, governance, health, policy and management.

Segura has developed a portable water-testing platform that combines a single-use sensor strip, a handheld reader and a mobile application. The strip is inserted into the reader, which conducts the analysis before displaying the results in the app. According to the company, the system can provide results for heavy-metal contaminants including lead and copper in under five minutes, without requiring samples to be sent to a laboratory.

In 2025, Segura was selected to participate in Startup Battlefield at TechCrunch Disrupt. More recently, José and the company featured in a campaign by HSBC Innovation Banking highlighting Segura’s portable approach to water testing.

José’s inclusion in the Forbes Centroamérica 30 Under 30 list recognises his work to develop new approaches to water-quality testing and the progress Segura has made since its beginnings in Oxford.
