Professor Andrew Goudie, Former Master, Emeritus Professor of Geography and Honorary Fellow, recently published his new book “Rocky Landscapes of the World with Google Earth.” The book was published by Springer Nature, a global publishing company specialising in scientific, educational, and professional content.
The book introduces rocky landscapes using selected Google Earth images, discussing their features, locations, and origins. It demonstrates Google Earth's value for understanding rock types and structures, with references for further exploration and additional ground photos taken by the author himself.
Professor Goudie studied Geography at Trinity Hall, Cambridge. He was Professor of Geography and Fellow at Hertford College from 1984 to 2003, and following this, he served as Master of St Cross until 2011. He has received numerous awards for his work in physical geography, including a DSc from the University of Oxford, the Royal Geographical Society’s Royal Medal, and multiple international awards for geomorphology and desert research. He has held many leadership roles, including President of the International Association of Geomorphologists, President of the British Institute in Eastern Africa, and Director of the Oxford China Centre.
