St Cross Fellow becomes world’s first Professor of Digital Diplomacy

St Cross is proud to announce that two of our esteemed fellows Corneliu Bjola and Robert Carlisle, have been awarded their Recognition of Distinction by the University of Oxford making them Professors in their fields. 

In receiving this award Professor Corneliu Bjola has become the world’s first Professor of Digital Diplomacy and Head of the Oxford Digital Diplomacy Research Group. His research focuses on the impact of digital technology on the conduct of diplomacy, with a special interest in public diplomacy, international negotiations, and methods for countering digital propaganda. 

Speaking of his new recognition Prof. Bjola expressed

I am incredibly excited about the University of Oxford creating the world's first-ever Professorship in Digital Diplomacy, highlighting the growing importance of this field and the university's commitment to pioneering research and teaching. I am grateful for this recognition, which reflects my contributions to shaping this emerging discipline. Digital Diplomacy has evolved significantly over the past decade and is poised for radical transformation with the arrival of AI.

Professor in Biomedical Engineering Robert Carlisle, is head of the Drug and Vaccine Delivery Group at Oxford University having worked for eight years within the Department of Clinical Pharmacology and the Department of Oncology at the University of Oxford. The majority of his work has been concerned with achieving systemic delivery of anti-cancer agents for the treatment of metastatic cancer. This has included the development and the testing of non-viral and viral gene delivery systems and liposomal agents for the delivery of conventional chemotherapeutics.
