I am part of the  experimental petrology group, which aims to experimentally simulate conditions within the Earth in order to understand fundamental petrological and geochemical processes. My key focus is trying to understand the chemical behaviour of volatiles in silicate melts. We must first understand the fundamental thermodynamics properties of a volatile before we can began to truly understand what roles they play in the formation of planets, transportation of metals, or volcanic degassing processes.
