Janet Remmington is a global portfolio director with editorial and financial responsibilities for a 400-strong academic journals programme in the humanities and social sciences at Routledge, Taylor & Francis Group. Originally from South Africa and a graduate of the University of Cape Town, Janet undertook further study in the UK and quickly moved into a career in global publishing, working for a range of companies. Alongside her publishing life, she pursued her research and authoring interests in a variety of ways, including a part-time Masters in Creative Writing at Royal Holloway, University of London, under the then poet laureate Andrew Motion. During a year’s career break (2008-09), Janet earned a Masters in African Studies at St Cross College, winning the dissertation prize, which encouraged her to pursue a PhD part-time and publications of her own, while working to nurture the research outputs of others. She continues to combine academic and professional interests, remaining an active researcher, and she also contributes to non-profit organizations in voluntary capacities, serving as a trustee of the Poetry Translation Centre and an Executive Council Member of Research4Life. Janet remains very connected to South Africa and is an advocate for scholarship from the Global South and collaborative partnerships.
