Eric Won Keun Chang, PhD

Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Hypersonics

Eric Won Keun Chang is currently a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Hypersonics at the Oxford Thermofluids Institute, Department of Engineering Science, University of Oxford. His current research focuses on hypersonic wind tunnel experiments of spacecraft re-entry flow physics. The primary goal of the project is to identify and quantify the aerothermochemistry of the radiating hypervelocity gas with ablating spacecraft heat-shield.

His research interests also include high-speed aerodynamics and airbreathing propulsion, in which he gained experience during his PhD studies at the Centre for Hypersonics at the University of Queensland from 2017 to 2021. The project realized the effect of elevated wall temperatures in hypersonic shock/boundary-layer interactions by developing and testing a preheated test model in the T4 Free-Piston Driven Shock Tunnel.

He finished his B.S. (2014) and M.S. (2016) in Aerospace Engineering at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. Apart from research, Eric enjoys capturing moments of life with his camera, listening to old-school soul/jazz music, and watching Premier League football.
