Profile

Eben, a cultural anthropologist, is renowned for his contributions to multispecies ethnography, a field that integrates contemporary research on animals, microbes, plants, and fungi with established traditions in environmental anthropology, continental philosophy, and the sociology of science. His latest book, "The Mutant Project" (2020), delves into the intersection of science and social justice, offering insights into a Chinese laboratory's creation of the world's first genetically edited children using CRISPR-Cas9 technology.

Initially a British Marshall Scholar at the University of Oxford, Eben later pursued his PhD at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He has taught at prestigious institutions such as Princeton University and Deep Springs College, and was instrumental in founding the Environmental Humanities program at UNSW Sydney in Australia. Additionally, he maintains collaborative ties with colleagues at the Alfred Deakin Institute in Melbourne, Australia.
