Dr Shailendra Bhandare is the curator of the current Ashmolean exhibition, which is showcasing more than 100 objects from around the world, including renowned artworks and the new phenomena of cryptocurrency and NFTs. Money is familiar, functional and fungible. Art and Money communicate, respond and react to each other in interesting ways. This talk will outline the tensions between the playfulness of Art and the power of money to bring out the tensions and juxtapositions the two share, and provide unique insights into how Art can be used as a lens to appreciate and analyse the position Money occupies in our social history.
