Giordano Epifani, the current Student Representative Committee President and MPhil Sociology & Demography student, has collaborated with fellow researchers to co-author a paper led by Professor Melinda Mills, director of the Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Science (LCDS). The team analysed case studies, creating an interactive dashboard for academics and their collaboration has resulted in the publication of a notable report in The British Academy

The report centres on understanding the impact of research in social sciences and humanities in the United Kingdom, both on a national and global scale. The research team scrutinized 4,000 impact Case Studies from the Research Excellence Framework 2021 (REF) to evaluate their effects on the economy, policy, industry, technology, and more.

As a co-author, Giordano contributed to the coordination, execution, and documentation of semi-structured interviews with REF2021 panel members and study authors. This involvement played a crucial role in bridging the gap between algorithmic impact mapping and real-world examples. The research team underscored the multidisciplinary character of social sciences and humanities research in the UK, supported by key funders and exerting a global influence. Their analysis led to the development of an interactive dashboard that highlights impacts based on geography, topic, and institutions, serving as a valuable resource for academics, policymakers, and funders.

Congratulations everyone!
