Professor Fiona Moore (1997, DPhil Social and Cultural Anthropology) recently won the British Science Fiction Association Award. She received the award in the Best Short Non-Fiction category, for her blog post series “Project Management Lessons from Rogue One”.
The British Science Fiction Association Award (BSFA) was established in 1958 by enthusiasts and has since become a nationally recognised entity. It's supported by various stakeholders, including readers, authors, critics, editors, booksellers, and publishers, all devoted to promoting and honouring science fiction. Today, the BSFA continues to grow, with members actively participating in discussions on platforms like Facebook and sharing science fiction content on X (formerly Twitter) and other social media platforms.
She also recently published her short story collection, Human Resources, which has been released by NewCon Press as part of their Polestars review. This collection features eighteen short stories spanning over a decade of publications. It includes tales ranging from a woman's rebellion against corporate manipulation, to misfit automata surpassing their expiration date. Stories also delve into a murder investigation involving an AI car and the search for a lost sentient battle tank in the jungle.
Professor Moore holds a BA Hons in Sociocultural Anthropology from the University of Toronto – Victoria University, a Masters in Social Anthropology, alongside an MPhil and a DPhil from St Cross.
