The director of this year's 2024 Oxford Chinese New Year Gala is Jinsen Lu, a fourth-year medical DPhil student at St Cross College, an orthopaedic surgeon, and President of the Oxford Chinese Students & Scholars Association. The prestigious event is to take place at the Oxford New Theatre on Saturday 24th February.

The event holds particular significance to the college this year as Kate Mavor, Master of St Cross, has been graciously invited to commence the gala with a brief address to an audience largely comprised of Oxford students.

The Oxford CSSA, a non-profit organization at the University of Oxford, boasts around 3,700 members as of the 2022-2023 academic year. With nearly 200 new members joining the email list each year, it is one of the largest Chinese community organizations in Oxford. Celebrating the 2024 Chinese New Year Gala in Oxford is a cultural spectacle organized by a dedicated production team, involving over 150 Oxford students, including St Cross students and alumni, and their collective efforts transcend a mere show, expressing China's cultural legacy and promoting global artistic unity.

The program features diverse performances, from Chinese folk music to Kung Fu demonstrations, delving into ancient traditions. The Gala also embraces cultural exchange with international acts like Oxford's own internationally acclaimed a cappella group "Out of the Blue," fostering cross-cultural dialogue. This year, attendees have a chance to win exclusive prizes, enhancing the celebratory atmosphere and expressing gratitude.

Jinsen Lu is a student of DPhil Musculoskeletal Sciences at Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS) of University of Oxford. Previously he worked as a Junior surgeon in China focusing on trauma and orthopaedics. His current research focuses on musculoskeletal ageing, bone tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.

Congratulations Jinsen and welcome to the Year of the Dragon!
