St Cross student Boon Lim (DPhil, Synthetic Biology) is part of a team that has won one of the Royal Academy of Engineering's President's Special Awards for Pandemic Service. His team, one of 19 different winners of the award, received the honour for their development of a new rapid viral RNA test for COVID-19. The team is led by Professor Zhanfeng Cui and Professor Wei Huang, and their test can detect whether a person is infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, is easy to use, and requires no specialised equipment.

The College has previously written about Boon's work developing rapid detection kits for COVID-19, for which he won an Oxford University Student Union Special Recognition Award. ' The College congratulates Boon and the rest of the team and thanks them for their work to help make the world safer and healthier.
