The Academic Office at St Cross provides students with many aspects of academic support during their studies at St Cross, and is the first port of call for academic related queries. We work together with your department Graduate Studies Administrator and/or Programme co-ordinator to support you through your studies. This includes the administrative provision relating to your Programme, where College input is needed for example:
-
College Advisors – the Academic Registrar is the point of contact for Advisors and Advisees (College Advisors are allocated to students at the start of Michaelmas Term and you will be notified by the Academic Office, and guidance on the role of the College Advisor provided).
-
The Academic Registrar is the Disability Co-ordinator in college and works closely with the University Disability Advisory Service, the student and their department to enable College support identified in a student's Study Support Plan including alternative exam arrangements.
We are also responsible for the Admissions and Graduation processes and arrangements providing end to end support in the student journey at St Cross.
Please email academic.office@stx.ox.ac.uk or call 01865 78458 with any academic related queries and a member of the team will respond and signpost you to the relevant information or support, or signpost you to the Team best placed to help.
You may also contact the Academic Registrar Sharon Durno to discuss any confidential matters relating to your study direct by emailing academic.registrar@stx.ox.ac.uk by Teams chat, or by telephone 01286 78445 Sharon is available for in person or online meetings by appointment.
Suspending your studies:
On rare occasions, a student may request to suspend their studies for a period of time. The University definition is: “Suspension of status within the University ‘stops the clock’ for all elements of your degree, including residence, fees and terms for which a particular status may be held.” The clear understanding is that the student hopes to return after suspension and will then be liable for fees, accommodation charges, etc for the equivalent extended period. Although the individual is suspending their student status, the University states that: “a student with suspended status will retain their University card and Single Sign On access to online resources, including email, and to University libraries, during periods of suspension.”
We expect that it will be normal for students to move away from Oxford (typically back home with family) during suspension.
For full details, see the College policy for student suspension here.
