September already, and the beginning of my fifth year as Master. The weather is now decidedly autumnal so I hope that you have had the opportunity to take a break and get some rest and relaxation in recent weeks. As the start of the new academic year fast approaches, there is plenty going on in College and around the University.
St Cross College Lunches are back
College lunches have restarted and are now open for booking! To manage numbers and to ensure social-distancing is maintained you must book for a specific lunch sitting. Bookings can be made through the usual College booking website (https://booking.stx.ox.ac.uk/) on a day-by-day basis. Bookings are open from 08:30 – 13:00 the working day before i.e. if you wish to book for lunch on Wednesday, you will need to book on Tuesday morning. For lunch on Monday you need to remember to book on Friday. There are three sittings per day, 12:00, 12:45 and 13:30. No guests are allowed.
St Cross Library – now open for booking
The St Cross Library is now open but you must book a place. We are currently taking bookings for all-day sessions from 09:00 to 17:00 – this will probably change to half day sessions when more students arrive/return in a few weeks’ time. Please email our Librarian, Philippa Taney, (firstname.lastname@example.org) by 13:00 the previous day to book your slot. You will be given a numbered space which will be yours (and yours only) for the day. We will also ask you to clean with the products provided at the end of the day when you leave.
A reminder that we also now have a Click and Collect (Request) fetching service for our readers. If you need a book from our library, all you have to do is sign in to SOLO, search the catalogue and, once you've found the book, select Request. We will retrieve the book and leave it in your pigeon hole for you. Once you have finished it can be returned to the Porter's Lodge.
We are looking forward to welcoming new St Cross students in the coming weeks and the Academic Office is looking for students to join the ‘Welcome Team’. More information about these roles and how to apply can be found online. Your new SRC members are also working hard to plan Freshers’ Week activities, and they would love to have more students involved with the planning and running of events. If you’d like to get involved, please contact your President, Gurpreet at email@example.com or your Vice-President, Gulnar, at firstname.lastname@example.org . As you will have seen from SRC emails they are also looking for Junior Advisors – sign up here!
A reminder that face coverings should be worn in all public areas of the College, unless you are exempt from doing so. There will be much more information from both the College and the University over the next few weeks to help you prepare for the start of the new academic year. You may also find some of the information for incoming students that is available on our website helpful. Life in Oxford will be different from when you first arrived and we want to make sure that you are as well briefed as our incoming students on what we are all doing to help keep you safe and able to enjoy being here with us.
With best wishes,
