The Marcus Harmelin Travel Prize

The Marcus Harmelin Prize is ordinarily a Travel Prize to support the cost of travel for St Cross members’ research in Austria, Germany, Poland, or Ukraine. This annual prize, worth up to £1500, is intended to further research in the humanities and social sciences, particularly for projects exploring Jewish life and culture. Acceptable projects may be linked to a degree or current research project or may constitute a standalone project due to personal interest.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020-21 Marcus Harmelin Prize will be offered as a research-based prize. Members of the College community, including current students, fellows, Junior Research Fellows, Postdoctoral Research Associates, and Members of Common Room are all eligible to apply.

To apply for this prize, please compete the application form to outline the details of your proposed project. The closing date for applications is 17:00 GMT Wednesday 13 January 2021 and the winner will be notified by 10 February 2021.

St Cross Community Bursaries

Thanks to generous support from David Scrymgeour, St Cross is delighted to be able to award up to three bursaries, worth £5,000 each, to current St Cross students.

Bursaries will be awarded to students based on their demonstrated achievements and commitment to supporting their own personal development, leadership skills, and entrepreneurial spirit. Successful applicants will have a track record in excelling in areas such as sport, community engagement, the performing arts, and leadership of university societies or community organisations. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate current excellence and commitment in two or more of the above areas.

These are one-off awards and are not renewable in subsequent years of study. Successful applicants will receive a one-off payment of £5,000 to help support them with the costs incurred by participating in and leading extra-curricular activity.

To apply for a St Cross College Community Bursary, please complete this application form. All applications must be received by 17:00 GMT Wednesday 13 January 2021.

A board of five different savoury canapes

Ever wondered what behind the scenes is like in the St Cross kitchen? Join us on 17 December to find out! Our own St Cross Catering Manager, Paul White, and Head Chef, Rob Rudman, will guide us through the making of some delicious canapés. Paul will also be on-hand to answer all your questions afterwards in a live Q&A. Recipes will be provided, so you can re-create some delicious St Cross treats in time for Christmas.

After some festive treats in the kitchen, we’ll be joined by alumnus and Member of Common Room, Dr Graham Harding, College’s resident wine expert and raconteur, who will lead a fun and interactive tasting of three wines.
