St Cross Fellow Professor Ramin Golestanian has been awarded the European Physical Journal E - Soft Matter and Biological Physics (EPJE) Pierre-Gilles de Gennes Lecture Prize for 2017. Professor Golestanian has been honoured 'for his outstanding contributions to the physics of microswimmers and their hydrodynamic interactions which have led to a series of exciting new discoveries and stimulated the field of active matter'. He will deliver the lecture during the 10th Liquid Matter Conference in Ljubljana, Slovenia, which takes place on 20 July.
Golestanian is currently Professor of Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics at Oxford, and he is renowned for his work on active matter, particularly his role in developing microscopic swimmers and active colloids. He is the recipient of the Holweck Medal, and has recently edited a special issue on active matter in EPJE together with physicist Sriram Ramaswamy.
