Clare Hall Exchange Lecture and Dinner at St Cross, 11 January 2019
We were delighted to welcome Fellows from our sister college at Cambridge, Clare Hall, for a lecture and dinner on Friday 11 January.
St Cross Fellow Professor Marina Jirotka, Professor of Human-Centred Computing at Oxford, gave a talk on algorithms, transparency and public engagement with policy making, with the associated challenges. Marina leads an interdisciplinary research group investigating the responsible development of technologies that are more responsive to societal acceptability and desirability. She has recently been awarded an EPSRC Established Career Fellowship to investigate 'Developing Responsible Robotics for the Digital Economy', and she has been appointed specialist advisor to the House of Lords Select Committee on Communications for their inquiry into Children and the Internet.
St Cross Fellows travelled to Clare Hall in March 2018 for the first ever exchange dinner and lecture between the two colleges, and it was hoped this would become a regular tradition to celebrate the colleges' connection. St Cross was able to return the favour by treating Clare Hall Fellows and staff to a three-course dinner, showcasing the best of St Cross hospitality, following Marina's Lecture.
