The 50:50 Challenge
The 50:50 Challenge aims to provide scholarship support that will make a real difference to our College community. If every member of the St Cross community gives £15.39 (the cost of three St Cross lunches) the College will be able to support ten new students. Please do get involved by giving online here: www.campaign.ox.ac.uk/st-cross-college. If you are resident in the USA please visit: www.oxfordna.org/donate, select 'St Cross' from the drop-down list and state 'St Cross 50:50 Scholarship Campaign' in the additional information box.
Studying at St Cross College today would cost a minimum of £20,000 per year. This price-tag is a barrier to many outstanding, highly qualified students. They are missing out on the opportunity to study for a postgraduate degree at the University of Oxford, and experience student life at St Cross College.
The £100,000 Scholarship Opportunity
All postgraduate students face challenges in securing funding, but the need for scholarships to support Master's-level study is particularly apparent. A Master's-level degree has become ever more important today, for both those starting out and for career-changers. Without a Master's degree, a student is unlikely to progress to a DPhil, and the academic community risks losing highly capable students if funding is not available for Master's level study.
To expand the diverse, global community of St Cross scholars, an immediate £100,000 scholarship fund will provide ten part-funded Master's degree scholarships. These will be awarded to students who begin their studies in the 2019-20 academic year and will benefit:
- One student from each of the following regions: UK/Europe, North America, Central & South America, Asia, Africa and Oceania.
and in addition
- One student studying in each of the Divisions of the University of Oxford (Humanities, Social Sciences, Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences, and Medical Sciences)
The 50:50 Challenge
We have a remarkable chance to make a difference through a match-funding offer to establish more scholarships at St Cross. If we raise £50,000, that will be matched by the College Contributions Fund.
Our aim: to reach our £50,000 target by 'Giving Tuesday' on 28 November 2017. Giving Tuesday is a global initiative which this year provides us with a particular moment to raise fund to help others benefit from postgraduate study at St Cross.
Play your part in the 50:50 Challenge
If every St Cross member gives £15.39 (the student price for three St Cross lunches) the College will reach its goal of raising £50,000 (remember, this will be matched so any gift is worth double its face value).
If every St Crosser doubles their support to £30.78 (less than the price of a College Feast!) we will raise £150,000. You will be providing support for the immediate Master's Degree Scholarship Fund and £50,000 of investment into our Endowed Scholarship Fund. You will be playing your part in providing St Cross scholarships for students now and in the future.
We have alumni in 104 countries around the world. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have a 50:50 Challenge participant from each one? See how we are doing on social media, too - where alumni are showing where they are and what they are doing today: www.facebook.com/stcrosscollege www.twitter.com/stcrosscollege. Do let us know what you are doing – we would love to hear from you!
