Why we need your financial support

Our aim is to preserve and enhance those aspects of St Cross which make our College special, nurturing our stimulating academic environment where productive relationships flourish between members of the College in different disciplines at all levels.

St Cross has always worked hard to ensure good stewardship of its resources, and this has enabled the College to achieve a stable financial position. However, the demands placed on the endowment are increasing as the number of students rises, and finances are stretched as government funding for universities is spread ever more thinly.

The level of St Cross's endowment falls far short of that of most other Oxbridge colleges and a substantial increase is required in order to enable us to attract the very best students and academics.

The income the College receives from fees is only 32% of the overall sum required to operate. The rest of its income must come from other sources such as the rent from student and guest rooms and the small amount of interest generated by the College's modest endowment. Without additional income from fundraising, the College will not be able to bring about the desired improvements to the facilities and opportunities available for our students.
