St Cross College, Oxford

The head of the Romanian Foreign Intelligence Service has been nominated as Prime Minister of Romania after Emil Boc stepped down in the face of street protests against an austerity programme. 

Christopher Ryan, who was a Visiting Student at St Cross reading Turkish and Persian in 1989-90, has just published his first book, The Story of the Damascus Drum.

Pete Mathias, recent Alumnus of the College, is embarking on a UK tour with his band Filligar.

Alumnus Doug Wigdor (MLitt Social Studies, 1993) is currently involved with a high profile court case in New York.  He and his partner in the law firm Thompson Wigdor LLP are representing the victim in the case against the former International Monetary Fund chief, Dominique Strauss-Kahn.

Janet Remmington (MSc 2009 African Studies), who is currently one of the editorial directors at the publisher Taylor and Francis, has recently been awarded this year's Oxonian Review poetry prize.

St Cross College is delighted to announce that the Alumnus of the Year Award for 2011 will be presented to Dr Ed Furgol.  

St Cross held its annual London winter drinks reception for alumni of the College on Wednesday 8 December 2010, in the splendid surroundings of the Oxford and Cambridge Club in Pall Mall on a chilly winter’s night.

On Friday 22nd May, Dr Patrick Hornbeck was awarded the Alumnus of the Year 2008 title.
