Mindsports Blue for St Cross Student
St Cross student, Thanasis Tsanas, has been awarded a Mindsports Blue in recognition of his performance on behalf of Oxford in the recent chess Varsity Match. Oxford won the 129th annual Varsity Chess Match, which took place in London in March, by 4½ points to 3½ points. This year's victory narrowed the overall score in the series to Cambridge 56 wins, Oxford 53 wins, and 20 drawn matches.
Mindsports Blues were established in 2010 to recognize outstanding Varsity Match performances in sports which primarily involve mental rather than physical exertion. At present, they are awarded to students who appear in the Varsity Matches for quiz and chess. Criteria for awarding Mindsports Blues are virtually identical to those laid down for the award of sporting Blues, except that there is no requirement that the activity should involve specifically athletic endeavour. Congratulations Thanasis!
