Connecting in your room

In order to connect your computer to the College network in your room, you must first have it inspected by one of the College IT Assistants. Please meet the Bursary Administrator to sign a College IT use agreement and set up an appointment.

The IT Assistants will check your computer for the following:

  1. That your computer is up-to-date in terms of operating system updates.
  2. It has an up to date anti-virus program working. The College currently requires the use of the Sophos anti-virus program, except where the College IT Manager is satisfied that another software is adequate. Please note that this would only be accepted where proof of continuing subscription to virus definition updates for the entire duration of the registration can be demonstrated. An up to date version of Sophos can be obtained free of charge from the OUCS website.
  3. An anti-spyware program and/or other security components could be also recommended or required on some machines.

Once one of the Student IT Assistants has seen your computer and deemed it safe to connect, the ITManager will register the MAC address of your computer with the DHCP server. This will allow you to connect your computer to the ethernet sockets in your room. Please note that a computer check-up with the IT Support Officer or one of the IT Assistants is mandatory in order to get connected.
