Metamorphic petrology is the study of rocks that have been transformed by heat and pressure in the crust of the Earth. Dave's research involves unravelling the complex record contained in the minerals and microstructures of the rocks that make up modern and ancient mountain belts, in order to understand the tectonic and petrological processes that shape the continental crust. Dave is interested in the use of IT in teaching and learning, and is chairman of the advisory group OxTALENT. He also likes getting out into the fresh air to appreciate nature and landscape in all its variety.
