Andrew Topsfield joined the Ashmolean in 1984 as Assistant Keeper with responsibility for the Indian, Himalayan and Southeast Asian collections. Previously he had worked in the Indian Department of the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. He was appointed Keeper of the Ashmolean's Department of Eastern Art in 2009. He has written many catalogues and articles on Indian painting in the Mughal period and related subjects. His books include Court Painting at Udaipur (Zurich, 2002); (Editor) The Art of Play: Board and Card Games of India (Bombay, 2006); and Paintings from Mughal India (Oxford, Bodleian Library, 2008).
