Power was appointed University Lecturer in Brazilian Studies and joined the fellowship of St Cross in 2006. He holds a joint appointment between the Department of Politics and International Relations and the School of Interdisciplinary Area Studies (SIAS), wherein he is based at the Latin American Centre (1 Church Walk). A native of Massachusetts, he previously taught at Florida International University and Louisiana State University. In Brazil, he has served as visiting Fulbright lecturer at the University of Brasília (1994) and the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (2002). From 2004-2006, he served as president of the Brazilian Studies Association (BRASA), an interdisciplinary organization with more than 600 members worldwide.
