Helena Hamerow's research interests are in the material culture of early medieval Europe (from c.400 - 900A.D.), especially in the rural settlements of N.W. Europe, including Anglo-Saxon England.

Professor Hamerow is the British Academy Senior Research Fellow for 2006/07.
