Luciano Floridi's research areas are the philosophy of computing and information, information/computer ethics, epistemology and philosophy of logic, history and philosophy of scepticism.

His most recent books are the Handbook of Information and Computer Ethics (Cambridge University Press, 2010), Information: A Very Short Introduction (Oxford University Press, 2010) and The Philosophy of Information (Oxford University Press, 2011). His forthcoming books are: Information Ethics, and The Fourth Revolution - The Impact of Information and Communication Technologies on Our Lives (both for Oxford University Press).

He holds the UNESCO Chair in Information and Computer Ethics and the Research Chair in Philosophy of Information at the University of Hertfordshire. In Oxford, he is a Senior Member of the Philosophy Faculty, Research Associate and Fellow in Information Policy, at OUCL, and Director of the IEG, the interdepartmental research group on the philosophy of information. In 2009, he was elected Gauss Professor by the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen, awarded the Barwise Prize by the APA for his work on the philosophy of information, and elected Fellow of the AISB. In 2010, he was elected fellow of the Center for Information Policy Research, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and appointed editor in chief of Philosophy & Technology (Springer). In 2011, he received a laurea honoris causa from the University of Suceava, Romania.

Before joining St Cross, he was Junior Research Fellow and then Research Fellow at Wolfson College, Oxford.
