Dawn Chatty is Director of the Refugee Studies Centre, Queen Elizabeth House, and Professor of Anthropology & Forced Migration, University of Oxford. She is a social anthropologist with long experience in the Middle East as a university teacher and development practitioner. She has taught at the University of California at Santa Barbara, at the State University of California at San Diego, at the American University of Beirut, at the University of Damascus, at Sultan Qaboos University and since 1996 at the University of Oxford.
She has worked with the regional offices of various international agencies including UNDP, UNICEF, FAO, IFAD, and USAID. Her research interests include nomadic pastoralism and conservation, gender and development, health, illness and culture, children and adolescents in prolonged conflict and forced migration, and development-induced displacement.
