New book on wetland archaeology

Wetland archaeology, as an academic discipline, is still relatively unfamiliar to most of us.  The author of a new book on the subject is St Cross alumnus Professor Francesco Menotti (DPhil 1996), now Professor of Archaeology at the Institute of Prehistory and Archaeological Science at Basel University in Switzerland.

St Cross alumnus Douglas Wigdor (MLitt Politics 1993), who is representing  Nafissatou Diallo in the civil case she is bringing against Dominique Strauss-Kahn for alleged sexual assault, spoke on Friday 9 March at the Cambridge University Faculty of Law.

The head of the Romanian Foreign Intelligence Service has been nominated as Prime Minister of Romania after Emil Boc stepped down in the face of street protests against an austerity programme.

Christopher Ryan, who was a Visiting Student at St Cross reading Turkish and Persian in 1989-90, has just published his first book, The Story of the Damascus Drum.

Alumnus in high profile case

Alumnus Doug Wigdor (MLitt Social Studies, 1993) is currently involved with a high profile court case in New York.  He and his partner in the law firm Thompson Wigdor LLP are representing the victim in the case against the former International Monetary Fund chief, Dominique Strauss-Kahn.

St Cross alumna wins poetry prize

Janet Remmington (MSc 2009 African Studies), who is currently one of the editorial directors at the publisher Taylor and Francis, has recently been awarded this year's Oxonian Review poetry prize.
