Meeting Minds: 21st century challenges

The 2011 Oxford Alumni Weekend looks set to be a fantastic occasion, with more than 120 talks, tours and activities in the central programme, complemented by College-specific events under the theme of 21st century challenges.

Our programme will feature sessions on climate change, politics, medical research, population change, computing, energy, food, poverty, philosophy and ethics, among others. Highlights include panel discussions on intergenerational justice, energy in the future and the Vice-Chancellor's Question Time, as well as lectures on topics as wide-ranging as the Byzantine Empire, social networks, geoengineering and vaccines.

There will also be a look at the London 2012 Olympics, with a panel of Oxonians who are working behind the scenes to make it happen. Finally, we celebrate the UN International Year of Forests with a number of events, including an exclusive tour of Wytham Woods. A variety of social activities complements our academic programme, including drinks receptions and dinners in a number of new venues.
