Eric Whittaker has had a mineral (whittakerite) named after him by the Committee on New Minerals and Mineral Names of the International Mineral Association. The chemical formula of whittakerite is Na.NaLi.Mg₂AlFe³⁺Li.Si₈O₂₂(OH)₂.
