Sir John Pethica Elected to Honorary Fellowship

Sir John Pethica, formerly a Member of Common Room at St Cross College, has been elected to an Honorary Fellowship of St Cross.

He is a highly distinguished scientist, recognised for his services to science, particularly atomic-scale mechanics, in the Queen's Birthday Honours this year.

He is Professor of Physics at Trinity College, Dublin and Chief Scientific Adviser at the National Physical Laboratory, previously Professor of Materials Science (1996-2001) and now Visiting Professor at the Department of Materials. 

He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1999 and became the Society's Physical Secretary and Vice President in 2009.
